In 2014 Auckland Transport ran "HackAKL" - an event to encourage local software developers and designers to create applications around the AT developer APIs here: https://api.at.govt.nz/
Since the event there has been very little or no communication around followup releases of non-mocked data for the realtime API, and questions on the AT API support forums have gone unanswered.
Could the council please provide answer the following:
* When will the AT "real time API" supply real data instead of mocked information. (refer to http://atapibeta.uservoice.com/forums/25... and http://atapibeta.uservoice.com/forums/25... and http://atapibeta.uservoice.com/forums/25...)
* Breakdown of resources (e.g. roles or FTE) assigned to support of AT APIs for external use, including roles responsible for monitoring user feedback (questions to the forum) and service improvement
* Communications regarding planned improvements, changes or support for the AT APIs beyond the current date, or if none exist, details of ATs strategy for the existing APIs.

Our Business Technology Division has advised that the software change to
our source system that enables delivery of GTFS Real-time data via the API
is being completed.
As a result, the real-time GTFS data can now be made available to
registered users of Auckland Transport API’s. This feed is only available
to users that are fully registered within Auckland Transport Customer
Management System.
The Business Technology Team will be in contact with you directly to
confirm your details and provide access via your existing API key.

In the CIO's earlier reply he stated that this would be accompanied by an "...updated API portal, together with related datasets and an Auckland Transport source code repository" from late October. This is what I referred to here as "data portal" and "code repository" respectively.

I would prefer that communication continued via this channel, where public responses are recorded at FYI.org.nz.
The purpose of this OIA request was to find out when the real-time data and related services would be made generally available.
On 1st October, in response to my original request I was told that:

On the 30th September 2015, as part of this very OIA request, AT CTO Roger Jones wrote to me:
"Since Hackathon, Auckland Transport has undertaken a significant program of work to improve the delivery, registration and feedback mechanisms, to enhance the scope, availability and quality of each dataset via the API. This program of work is nearing completion and it is anticipated that the updated API portal, together with the related datasets and an Auckland Transport source code repository, will be available in late October".

To simplify my request considerably, could Auckland Transport please provide me:
1. Confirmation that real time bus data is available for the API's provided by Auckland Transport.
2. The expected launch date for the updated API portal.
3. The expected release date of the Auckland Transport source code repository.

Our Business Technology Team has confirmed the following:
The source code repository will not be released, what we have decided to release at this point in time is the code required to make the APIs work with examples.
In terms of source code repository that will happen in due when we make the source code "open source code" for specific applications, not all applications will be "open source". A timeline for this has not been identified.
Release dates for updated API portal will be determined in the new year, this is immaterial to developers as the current API portal is available. Those registered will be advised once the new portal is completed and tested, and the website will be updated.
AT has selected a new product for its API management rather than upgrading the existing portal product, hence the delay in this aspect.

AT has a set of APIs available for release to the development community. We have not and do not intent to publicly announce this as a press release.
In order to protect our data from abuse, and commercial exploitation developers will be required to register with us and agree a set of terms and conditions as set out on our web page.

Our Business Technology Team has confirmed the following:
The source code repository will not be released, what we have decided to release at this point in time is the code required to make the APIs work with examples.
In terms of source code repository that will happen in due when we make the source code "open source code" for specific applications, not all applications will be "open source". A timeline for this has not been identified.
Release dates for updated API portal will be determined in the new year, this is immaterial to developers as the current API portal is available. Those registered will be advised once the new portal is completed and tested, and the website will be updated.
AT has selected a new product for its API management rather than upgrading the existing portal product, hence the delay in this aspect.
