Dear Andrew,
Thank you for your letter, dated 12 March 2025, for the following information under the
Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Under the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982, I request access to any
communications, in any form, that you or your office have sent or received between
December 12, 2024, and March 12, 2025, related to waste-to-energy. This includes
emails, memos, meeting notes, and any communications via electronic apps.
There are 30 email threads or documents in scope of your request. I am releasing 7 of these
in full, with the remaining 23 being released in part with one or more of the following
redactions:
9(2)(a) - protect the privacy of natural persons
Some information has also been withheld as it is either outside of the date range of
the parameters of this request or is not related to waste-to-energy.
Both myself and members of my office also receive media alerts which cover Environment
issues more broadly, some of which may include media articles and reports on waste-to-
energy. I have omit ed these from this OIA request, but these alerts are based on publicly
available online articles from New Zealand news websites.
I am satisfied, in terms of section 9(1) of the Act, that the need to withhold the information
referred to above is not outweighed by other considerations that render it desirable, in the
public interest, to make the information available.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
