Arrest requests - student loans
Mr Cannicott made this Official Information request to Inland Revenue Department
The request was refused by Inland Revenue Department.
From: Mr Cannicott
Dear Inland Revenue Department,
On how many occasions has Inland Revenue requested the District Court to issue an arrest warrant for a liable parent who is about to leave New Zealand with the intent to avoid their student loan repayment obligations - under the terms of the Student Loan Scheme Amendment Act (3)? What was the outcome of each of these arrests.
Yours faithfully,
Sam C

Dear Commissioners Correspondence,
Thank you for your response. I do not understand why this request has been refused. I am not asking for any personal information, only raw data around the number of warrants issued. Is it not in the public's interest to see the impact of a legislative reform?
Yours sincerely,
Mr Cannicott

I have never seen a response like this... it would be good to both ask for an internal review and Ombudsman opinion on this.
