LGBTIQ Prisoners: numbers and policies
Ti Lamusse made this Official Information request to Department of Corrections
The request was partially successful.
From: Ti Lamusse
Dear Department of Corrections,
I am interested in the conditions and numbers of LGBTIQ prisoners in New Zealand Prisons. My questions are:
Does the Department of Corrections keep records of the number of LGBTIQ prisoners, beyond just transgender prisoners?
Are there any policies in place to specifically ensure the safety of LGBTIQ prisoners?
If these policies exist, how many times have they been applied to LGBTIQ prisoners?
If these policies do not exist, why not and what steps is the Department taking to ensure the safety of LGBTIQ prisoners?
Yours faithfully,
Ti Lamusse

"From November 2014 to 10 March 2016, all 10 applications of transgender prisoners to transfer prison have been successful."
I wonder how long they each took. At least one of those applications was for weeks because Corrections lost it: http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/national/2...
"In August, Corrections apologised to prisoner Jade Follett, whose application to be moved to a women's jail was lost."
