Information on the Ruataniwha Dam supreme court challenge, by the department of conservation

Caroline Evans made this Official Information request to Minister of Conservation

The request was refused by Minister of Conservation.

From: Caroline Evans

Dear Minister of Conservation,I am concerned at the use of public money and resources going to support Hawke’s Bay Regional Investment Company (HBRIC) plans to acquire land needed for the Ruataniwha Dam .

HBRIC and the Department of Conservation (DOC) have jointly sought leave to appeal a Court of Appeal decision with the Supreme Court, and HBRIC will also seek to acquire land for the Dam under the Public Works Act.

I would like all the information , commissioned reports , etc, including emails that led to the Department of Conservation's, and Maggie Barry's ,decision to challenge the recent court of appeal decision opposing the buying and consequent building of the Ruataniwha dam.

I would like all the information that supports the view that buying the land that will then be given to a private company to use for the building of the Ruataniwha dam. is the correct path for our publicly paid for conservation department to take.

Yours faithfully,
Caroliine Evans
