Dear Sir/Madam

We are writing in response to your Official Information Act 1982 requests
dated 4 November 2016 requesting information on various locomotives.

DBR 1226 is still in service if so were DFTs 7064 and 7335 withdrawn due
to poor condition or faults in the loco?

The DBR 1226 is still in service. The DFT 7064 and DFT 7335 locomotives
were both withdrawn due to their condition.

Was DBR 1295 withdrawn due as surplus or due to poor condition?

The DBR 1295 sustained a traction motor failure that would not be economic
to repair.

What will be happening to the withdrawn DFTs and DCs will they be scrapped
or preserved in some way?

No decision has been made regarding any withdrawn DFTs and DCs
locomotives. KiwiRail is unaware of any approaches to preserve an example
of a DC or DFT locomotive.

Also what type of horn does 7092 have as it’s quite unique?

The DFT 7092 is fitted with a Leslie S2M horn at the front and a Leslie
S31 horn at the rear.

Under s28(3) of the Act, you have the right to seek an investigation and
review of this decision by way of complaint to the Ombudsman.  Refer to
[1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz for more information.

We note that you have sent us a few requests recently.  Whilst we
appreciate your interest, we would like to take this opportunity to inform
you that our limited resources mean that we may have difficulty in
responding to frequent requests, or requests which require us to find a
lot of detailed information.

Regards

Louise
