KiwiRail
Dear Sir/Madam
We are writing in response to your Official Information Act 1982 request
dated 4 November 2016 requesting information on the status of the Hillside
workshops, CET and CW Hoppers and DC Locomotives.
What is hillside workshops currently used for and what stock is stored
there?
The Hillside workshops are used for locomotive lifting and long term wagon
repairs. The stock stored at the workshops is used to perform these tasks.
Are DSCs 2502 2652 used in Christchurch and are they in the Waltham depot?
The DSC 2502 and DSC 2652 shunting locomotives shunt depot and equipment
for the Scenic Journeys service.
Does Christchurch have a main servicing shed now that Linwood depot is
gone?
Yes. The main servicing shed is at the Middleton depot.
Also where are the CET and CW hoppers stored?
All CETs are stored at Mt Maunganui. The one remaining CW hopper is at
Pukeuri waiting to be scrapped.
Are the DCs being removed from service whenever they break down or are
random ones being removed as surplus and will it be likely for one to go
up for preservation?
DC locomotives are removed from service if they have issues that are
uneconomic to repair. KiwiRail is unaware of any approaches to preserve an
example of a DC locomotive.
Under s28(3) of the Act, you have the right to seek an investigation and
review of this response by way of complaint to the Ombudsman. Refer to
