The request was refused by Taranaki Regional Council.
From: Dr Robert Shaw
Dear Taranaki Regional Council,
Could you please provide a list of contaminated sites in the South Taranaki Region? An indication of the nature of the contamination for each site would be helpful.

Dear Regional Council,
Thank you for your response. I know the Regional XExplorer facility and have noted that it gives limited information although it does have the advantage of being able to select sites off a map.
I want to see the register of contaminated sites for South Taranaki. This should show the location, the nature of the contamination, date of last action, amelioration actions, etc. In other words, the overview that you will be using to manage the sites. It will probably be a spreadsheet.
Regional XEplorer needs to be updated to give more information. For example, the park site adjacent to Gisborne Terrace, Opunake was contaminated by the railway - this you mention. But, you make no mention of he levels of arsenic and heavy metals (which your council holds from tests, as per a letter to me many years ago). Another example. There are according to local people two sites in the main road of Opunake which have asbestos contamination - what research has been done, what work has been done, what is the current status for them? They are on private land now, I think, although they were once public sites.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Robert Shaw
