Official Information request Tania Gilbert-Kennedy 'Names of successful
recipients of the Mataawaka Scholarship' 2017 - listed on Otago
Polytechnic corporate database as number O17.03
Hi Tania
On behalf of our Privacy Officer, Philip Cullen
We have received your Official Information Request 11 April regarding
requesting the names of the recipients of the Mataawaka and Rûnaka
Scholarships. I endorse Rebecca Williams response at that time via the Te
Punaka Owheo Facebook site ie. we are not in a position to release the
names of the individuals. We have not sought their permission do so and
we are bound by the principles of the Privacy Act. Rebecca advises that
in future, we will ask for permission as part of the application process;
however, it will be the applicants’ choice if they give permission or not,
and they will not be disadvantaged if they decide not to do so.
One of the conditions of the Mataawaka Scholarship is that applicants are
not eligible to apply if they have previously received an Otago
Polytechnic fees paying scholarship. This is clearly stated on the
application form, and is checked by the panel as part of the process.
This means that no-one can receive a Mataawaka Scholarship more than
once.

Hi Tania
In response to your query: "The number of applicants who applied for the Mataawaka Scholarship (only) for the three years 2015 to 2017; and of those applicants, how many applied more than once and were unsuccessful"
Sourced from historical records from the former Student Success team I can advise:
2015 - there were 7 applications, none of which had previously applied and were unsuccessful.
2016 - there were 21 applications, none of which had previously applied and were unsuccessful.
2017 - there were 13 applications, two of whom had applied previously and were unsuccessful.
Kind regards, Julie
