Thank you for your 17 April 2018 email to the Ministry of Education requesting the following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
- Please provide all briefings, memos or advice you have supplied to the current Minister on the safety of students and teachers in NZ schools.
Your request has been considered under the Act.
The very broad scope of your request has not provided the Ministry with a request which could reasonably be answered within the provisions of the Act. The request will require a search across multiple systems, and staff files in different groups across the Ministry. This search would initially be just to identify any potential information within scope. This information would then need to be individually assessed to determine if it is within scope. As currently worded, we are likely to refuse the request under section 18(f) of the Act on the basis that the information requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.
We would like to offer you the opportunity to refine your request to more specific information/documentation held by the Ministry.
If you can clarify what specific area of student safety you are looking for information about, and/or whether you are looking for policy/legislative/operational advice to the Minister, we may be able to refine your request in a way that will allow us to provide you with the information you seek within the provisions of the Act.
To refine your request or if you wish to discuss this further, please contact me via return email.
Once we have your clarification we will commence work on your request. We look forward to hearing from you.
Ngā mihi
Caroline
