We received your request on 25-June 2018. We will endeavour to respond to your request as soon as possible and in any event no later than 23-July 2018, being 20 working days after the day your request was received.
If we are unable to respond to your request by then, we will notify you of an extension of that timeframe.

Good Afternoon,
I refer to your official information request dated 25 June 2018 for,
"All information you and/or your office has received regarding the total spend to date on ACC's 'Shaping Our Future' program."
"Can you also please advise whether you receive, or intend to receive, regular reporting on the progress of implementing ACC's 'Shaping Our Future' program, by either the Board of ACC, ACC management, or both?"
The OIA requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day we received your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our decision, to 31 August 2018.
This extension is necessary because consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.

Dear I Lees-Galloway (MIN),
Thank you for your recent letter, however I note that you are out of time to extend the time-frame within which a decision on the request (i.e. within 20 working days of the request).
Additionally, it does seem rather improper that a further 20 working days are needed for consultation on what is a rather straight forward request. On this basis, a complaint will be lodged with the Office of the Ombudsman.
I would hope that the necessary and reasonable consultation provision within the OIA is not being used as a means of administrative management of requests by your office. This was a practice of former governments, and one that the Ombudsman has taken a dim view previously.
