Should selective taxes be imposed upon foods and beverages with a high sugar and/or fat content to discourage their consumtopn and internalise their social/health costs?

Thank you for your email dated 24 July 2019 requesting the following
information under the Official Information Act 1982:

"I would like information and advice on a potential sugar tax for NZ.

Should selective taxes be imposed upon foods and beverages with a high
sugar and/or fat content to discourage their consumtopn and internalise
their social/health costs?"

As required under the Act we will endeavour to respond to your request no
later than 21 August 2019, being 20 working days after the day your
request was received.  

If we are unable to respond to your request within this time frame, we
will notify you of an extension of that time frame.
