the years 2018 and 2019. Monthly statistics are preferred, if they are
available."

The request as it is currently worded is likely to be refused under
section 18(g) of the Official Information Act 1982 as the information
requested is not held by the Ministry of Health (the Ministry) or any
other agency subject to the Act.  However I have been advised that if it
is possible for you to refine your request to; "the number of coronial
cases where a person has died of pneumonia", then the Ministry of Justice
will be able to respond to your request.

If you are satisfied with this refinement then please respond with
confirmation to this email and I will commence transferring your request
to the Ministry of Justice.

Furthermore if you wish to discuss this purposed refinement further please
feel free to do so.

Hi Mr Fuller,

 

Your OIA request regarding coronial cases and pneumonia has been
transferred to the Ministry of Justice from the Ministry of Health.

 

We are unable to provide a breakdown of coronial cases where the deceased
was a patient hospitalised with pneumonia as the Ministry’s case
management system does not record this level of data.

 

What we can provide is the total number of coronial cases related to
pneumonia between 1 January 2018 – 30 April 2020, broken down by calendar
year. We can include instances where the deceased’s location of death is
recorded as ‘hospital’ and pneumonia is noted in the Medical Cause of
Death and/or Final Cause of Death fields in the Ministry’s case management
system.

 

Can you please clarify what you would prefer out of the following:

 

 1. The total number of coronial cases related to pneumonia between 1
January 2018 to 30 April 2020, broken down by calendar year – This
will included both hospital and non-hospital related deaths
 2. The total number of coronial cases related to pneumonia between 1
January 2018 to 30 April 2020, broken down by calendar year with
deaths that occurred in hospital displayed separately
