Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act) to Manatū Hauora (the Ministry of Health) on 25 August 2023.
Manatū Hauora does not hold any information relating to your request;
however, I have been advised that this information is held by Te Whatu
Ora – Health New Zealand. For this reason, I have decided to transfer your

of Health) that was transferred to Te Whatu Ora on 29 August 2023, asking
for the following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act):
"Please provide from 2020 - 2023 broken down per month
Total number of woman that passed away during child birth
Whether the infant also passed away
And whether the infant passed during, days after or within twelve months
of the birth."
This email is to let you know that Te Whatu Ora needs more time to make a
decision on your request.
The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no
later than 20 working days after the day we received your request.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are
therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our
decision, to 31 October 2023.
This extension is required because the consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit.

Dear hnzOIA,
Unfortunately this isn't acceptable and appears to be a trend. It doesn't appear that the Ministry isn't able to handle the most basic requests. The majority of request responses are
- always delayed
- links don't work (two links in the response you sent) do not work
- extra consultations are required / extensions are required
- and then the information you provide is fill of gaps, poor, misleading, incomplete, false, hidden
If you can't handle the most basis OIA requests how can you be trusted with the health of New Zealanders. The data I have requested is basic - I require no causes of deaths.
All I want are the numbers through the years that died during childbirth - given we are a first world country I don't expect there to be many. Now I require hnz to do this properly without delay.
I am aware that there are delays with the Coroner who also appear to be unable to do their job properly, but this isn't a surprise given the massive deviation in the excess death numbers as the unexplained death numbers continue to tick up.

during childbirth must be reported to the coroner.

Services. For this reason, Te Whatu Ora has decided to transfer your
request in full to Ministry of Justice under section 14(b)(ii) of the
