Kia ora Daniel,

Thank you for your request, received 4 May 2020, for the following
information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):

1) How much has been spent on tuition under the Fees Free scheme for each
complementary therapy (below), for each year since the beginning of the
scheme?

2) How many people have received under the Fees Free scheme for each
complementary therapy (below), for each year since the beginning of the
scheme?

3) If possible, what is next years projection on how much will be spent on
complementary therapies?

Complementary therapies: Chinese medicine, kinesiology (aka applied
kinesiology), homeopathy, Ayurveda, acupuncture, naturopathy/naturopathic
medicine, herbal medicine, holistic pulsing, homeobotanical therapy, tui
na/tuina, aromatherapy, yoga, chiropractic, osteopathy and any other
pseudo-therapies.

The request necessitates a search through a large quantity of information
and meeting the original time limit would unreasonably interfere with the
operations of the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). Therefore the TEC
is extending the due date for responding to your request, as per section
15A of the Act, until Friday 26 June 2020.

We would also like to clarify some points of your request to ensure we are
providing the best data for you. To that end, could you please clarify if
you want information on all courses or qualifications undertaken that
relate to the areas mentioned, or is there a specific focus on courses
that are medicine or treatment related? For example, we are proposing to
exclude aromatherapy courses completed as part of a Diploma in Beauty
therapies and epilation, and Kinesiology courses completed as part of
bachelor of dance studies and bachelor of sport and exercise.  Could you
please advise if you would like these courses included?

Under section 28(3) of the Act you have the right to complain to an
Ombudsman about the TEC’s decision to extend the time limit for responding
to your request.

Ngâ mihi
