Thank you for your OIA request transferred to the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Trade (MFAT) from the Prime Minister’s office on 16 July 2021
for:
Could you please supply details of all material relating to Agenda 2030,
including correspondence, decisions made by the government and forward
planning.
We note that on 16 July 2021, after your initial request was transferred
to us, you contacted the Prime Minister’s office and advised that you were
seeking information from the Prime Minister. In these circumstances,
before proceeding we are seeking your confirmation that you want MFAT to
continue to process your initial request outlined above.
If you do wish to progress with your initial request, we advise that
responding to your request as currently framed would require capture a
significant amount of information and require significant review. As such,
it is likely that your request will be refused under section 18(f) of the
OIA, as it would require substantial collation and research.
Publicly available information regarding Agenda 2030 can be found on the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade website at:
[1]https://www.mfat.govt.nz/en/peace-rights...
and in the Briefing for Incoming Minister of Foreign Affairs: November
2020 which can be found here:
[2]http://www.beehive.govt.nz/sites/default...
If you wish for MFAT to progress your OIA request, and the above
information does not address your area of interest, we propose to refine
your request to be for:
Formal briefings related to Agenda 2030 sent to the Minister of Foreign
Affairs and, or the Office of the Prime Minster over the past 12 months.
Please confirm if you wish to either 1) refine your request as above; 2)
withdraw your request, and await a response from the Prime Minister’s
office on your latest request; or 3) have MFAT proceed with your original
transferred request. If we do not hear from you by Friday 30 July 2021, we
will proceed with your original request.

I am writing concerning your OIA request below. This email is to advise that we will need to extend the time limit for responding to you by 30 working days, to 1 October 2021. This is because responding to your amended request still necessitates review of a large quantity of information. In addition, further consultation is required before a response can be provided. During COVID-19 Alert Level 4, Ministry staff are working remotely. A large number of Ministry staff are also currently working on the Government’s response to the situation in Afghanistan. Therefore, consultations necessary to make a decision on your request cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.
However, if this process is completed before 1 October 2021, the response will be sent to you as soon as possible. If you have any questions, you can contact us by email at: [email address]. You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision by contacting www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
