Request for Annual Cordon Survey Data for Wellington CBD
Tony Randle made this Official Information request to Wellington City Council
The request was successful.
From: Tony Randle
Dear Wellington City Council,
I understand from the WCC that you and the GWRC undertake an annual "Wellington CBD Cordon Survey" of travel into and out of the Wellington CBD. The CBD cordon survey data for cycling is available via the WCC web site: https://www.transportprojects.org.nz/cyc...
I note that the cycling cordon survey data is held in spreadsheet form and that it has detailed counts by location, time of day (per quarter hour) and direction of travel (in/out).
I also understand that the cordon survey also captures counts of travel by other modes including walking, passengers of rail, bus, ferry and cable car, as well as counts of cars, light trucks, heavy trucks, vans, motorbikes, taxis (including number of occupants). This is very valuable data to help understand the performance of Wellington City transport.
Can the WCC please provide the CBD cordon survey data equivalent to that already provided for cycling but for all modes captured in the annual cordon surveys from 2000 to 20021?
It is preferred that the requested information be provided in its complete and original electronic spreadsheet format.
Yours faithfully,
Tony Randle

Dear BUS: Assurance,
On the 19th of August I requested a copy of the Annual Cordon Survey Data for Wellington CBD. The WCC responded noting that this was request IRC-2280 and that a reply was to be provided by the 14th of September.
The LGOIMA response is now a week overdue. Can the WCC please provide an update on when the requested information will be provided?
Yours sincerely,
Tony Randle

Hello Tony,
At this stage, I am able to provide you with the attached Pedestrian Cordon data and Cordon Vehicle occupancy data.
Please note that the Cordon Vehicle occupancy data does not include vehicle classifications (whether the vehicle is a car or truck etc).
There is further information gathered by Greater Wellington Regional Council, which I have asked colleagues to see if we hold, so that it can be provided to you.
Kind regards
Chris

Dear BUS: Assurance,
Thank you Chris for this valuable information.
I do note that Cycling cordon data is already available (https://www.transportprojects.org.nz/cyc...) but PT (Bus, Rail, Ferry & Cable Car) are not listed although these must also be captured as the totals are used in some reports. I assume you are seeking to see if the WCC can also provide PT related cordon count information so thank you once more.
Yours sincerely,
Tony Randle
