Copy of authority for use of name "Aotearoa New Zealand' in official communications
Barry Brill made this Official Information request to Chris Hipkins
The request was successful.
From: Barry Brill
Dear Chris Hipkins,
In recent times, almost all official papers, reports and other communications by public officials use the name "Aotearoa New Zealand" to refer to New Zealand.
The fact that this naming convention seems to be universal and and was adopted at about the same time by all or most departments/agencies, indicates that it must have been the subject of an advice or directive from the Minister for the Public Service.
Please advise particulars of any advice that has been given by you or your predecessors to the State Services Commissioner or to any Department in relation to the use of the name Aotearoa New Zealand.
This request is made under the Official Information Act.
Yours faithfully,
Barry Brill
