Natural disaster contingency plans

Patrick James made this Official Information request to National Emergency Management Agency

Response to this request is long overdue. By law National Emergency Management Agency should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Patrick James

Kia ora,

Can I request any reports or briefings that assess the risk and/ or implications and/ or response plans for the following:

1) A volcanic eruption in Tāmaki Makaurau, particularly a new cone
2) An eruption at Taupō, especially in reference to a super eruption
3) A 7+ quake on the Richter scale that hits Wellington

I'd also like to ask for any reports or briefings that discuss large scale abandonment of the country due to a natural disaster.

And just out of sheer curiosity, and I imagine you may need to transfer this, there's an urban myth that Muldoon got a briefing on potential natural disasters or ways in which a great number of New Zealanders would die that he freaked out about and hid in a safe. If this exists, or if any other such breifing was given to the PM or Minister for Civil Defence, can I have a copy?

Ngā mihi,

Patrick James

Kia ora,

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet has been made aware of a technical issue receiving requests via the FYI website. After a review of information requests made to the platform, we have located this request. Given the time that has passed, can you please advise if the information is still required?

Please note that if proceeding with your request, we may need to discuss a refinement. DPMC received a similar request which we were unable to fulfil due to the scope of the request.

We would appreciate a response by 9 December 2022, if possible.
