Rates of Patient Transfers Outside of Auckland
Scout Barbour-Evans made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health
The request was successful.
From: Scout Barbour-Evans
Tēnā koe Ministry of Health,
I appreciate that you will be receiving a lot of OIA requests at the moment. Thank you in advance for providing the data we need to understand this outbreak. The following is yet another request being made in accordance with the Official Information Act.
I am searching for data that breaks down the rates of hospital patients unable to be treated in Auckland DHBs due to the current Delta outbreak. My understanding is that the Ministry has oversight of these transfers as the over arching manager of different DHBs, please do advise me if I need to ask elsewhere.
1. How many patients have been transported from Auckland to other DHBs to receive emergent care unable to be provided otherwise?
2. Of those patients, can you please provide a breakdown of the DHBs these patients have been sent to?
2. Of those patients, can you please provide a breakdown of the departmental/medical area those patients are needing transportation for? eg: NICU, surgical, medical etc.
Thank you for your work,
Scout Barbour-Evans
From: OIA Requests
Kia ora Scout,
Thank you for your request for official information received on 14 October
2021 for:
“1. How many patients have been transported from Auckland to other DHBs to

Your request asks for information which is more closely connected with the
functions of the Northern Regional Health Coordination Centre (NHRCC). For
this reason, the Ministry of Health has decided to transfer your request
to NHRCC under section 14(b)(ii) of the Act. You can expect a response
from NHRCC in due course.

Kia ora Scout,
This is to acknowledge receipt of transfer from the Ministry of Health of
your below OIA dated 27/10/21.
“1. How many patients have been transported from Auckland to other DHBs to
receive emergent care unable to be provided otherwise?
2. Of those patients, can you please provide a breakdown of the DHBs these
patients have been sent to?
2. Of those patients, can you please provide a breakdown of the
departmental/medical area those patients are needing transportation for?
eg: NICU, surgical, medical etc.”
We will endeavour to respond to your request as soon as possible and, in
any event, no later than 24 November 2021. We will contact you if an
extension is required.
Please note currently the Northern Region Health Coordination Centre are
receiving a number of COVID related Official Information Act requests, at
a time when the staff who would be able to inform a response are committed
to the responding to the current outbreak and rollout of the COVID
vaccine. This may mean that responding to your request within the
statutory 20 day period will be compromised.
Like other DHBs across New Zealand, NRHCC with Auckland DHB has adopted a
model of proactive disclosure which sees OIA responses publically
available on our website approximately one month after they have been
released. If you believe that there are any special reasons why proactive
disclosure should not apply to our response to you, we will be happy to
consider this.
Ngā mihi
