Covid-19 Hospitalisations
Mario Funken made this Official Information request to Waitemata District Health Board
Response to this request is long overdue. By law Waitemata District Health Board should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: Mario Funken
Dear Waitemata District Health Board,
please provide the following information regarding the Covid-19 cases that required hospital care during the current delta outbreak so far.
1. What is the total number of Covid cases that required hospital care in your region since the start of the current delta outbreak?
2. How many of those cases have been hospitalised for
a) Covid-19 related acute health issues as a primary reason?
b) unrelated acute health issues as a primary reason while testing positive for Covid?
c) monitoring purposes only (no acute health issues at time of admission)?
3. What was the average time spent in hospital?
4. How many of those cases required supplemental oxygen at some point during their hospital stay?
Yours faithfully,
M Funken
From: Anna Monastra (WDHB)
Waitemata District Health Board
Dear Mario,
Thank you for your OIA request, received yesterday.
While we will endeavour to provide a response to you within the 20 working
days allowed under the Act, it should be noted that Waitematâ DHB’s
clinicians, managers and staff are concentrating on measures to manage the
current COVID-19 Delta outbreak in the region.
Therefore, we have limited capacity to respond to some OIA requests. If
for any reason we are unable to meet the deadline and need to extend the
timeframe for your response, we will be in touch to advise why this has
been necessary and to indicate when your response will be ready.
Please note that Waitematâ DHB supports the open disclosure of information
to assist community understanding of how we are delivering publicly-funded
healthcare. This includes the proactive publication of anonymised Official
Information Act responses on our website from 10 working days after they
have been released.
If you feel that there are good reasons why your response should not be
made publicly available, we will be happy to consider this.
Kind regards
Anna

Kia ora Mario,
This email is to acknowledge receipt of transfer from the Waitematā DHB
of your below OIA dated 28/10/21.
“Please provide the following information regarding the Covid-19 cases
that required hospital care during the current delta outbreak so far.
1. What is the total number of Covid cases that required hospital care in
your region since the start of the current delta outbreak?
2. How many of those cases have been hospitalised for

4. How many of those cases required supplemental oxygen at some point
during their hospital stay?”
We will endeavour to respond to your request as soon as possible and, in
any event, no later than 25 November 2021. We will contact you if an
extension is required.
Please note currently the Northern Region Health Coordination Centre are
receiving a number of COVID related Official Information Act requests, at
a time when the staff who would be able to inform a response are committed
to the responding to the current outbreak and rollout of the COVID
vaccine. This may mean that responding to your request within the
statutory 20 day period will be compromised.
Like other DHBs across New Zealand, NRHCC with Auckland DHB has adopted a
model of proactive disclosure which sees OIA responses publically
available on our website approximately one month after they have been
released. If you believe that there are any special reasons why proactive
disclosure should not apply to our response to you, we will be happy to
consider this.
