Dear John,

 

I refer to your request of 31 December 2021. The University’s response
follows:

“Under the Official Information Act 1982, I request the following relating
to the Confucius Institute at the University of Auckland:

 1. Minutes of meetings of the Advisory Board for the last three years”

The requested documents held at the date of your request are attached.

“2. Funding provided by Fudan or Confucius Headquarters to the Confucius
Institute in Auckland over the last three years
3. Funding provided by University of Auckland to the Confucius Institute
in Auckland over the last three years”

Confucius Institute in Auckland funding

2019: Hanban – 328,350; Other – 58,276; UoA – 318,187.
2020: Hanban – 321,489; Other – 38,562; UoA – 202,463.

The University has decided to provide you with the information requested
for 2021 as soon as reasonably practicable, after these figures have been
finalised.

“4. Funding provided by Fudan, Handan, or Confucius Headquarters or
related parties to each Confucius Classroom managed by the Confucius
Institute in Auckland over the last three years”

None. Each Confucius Classroom managed by the CI in Auckland is funded by
the CI in Auckland (up to $10,000 per year) rather than the entities
specified in your request.

“5. Details of personnel from China that University of Auckland has
provided visa application assistance for per the terms of the CI MoU with
Fudan over the last three years.”

Professor Bing Zhou of Fudan University (Deputy Director of the Confucius
Institute in Auckland) and his dependent family members.
