Dear Auckland Transport,
Could you please provide the following information:
1. Number of assaults against bus drivers in the calendar year 2021.
2. Does AT have a policy in place whereby it is mandatory for bus drivers to report assaults/threatening behaviour in order to monitor trends associated with such threats? Is this policy communicated to the drivers by their various contracting companies?
3. Does AT have a policy in place to ‘stand down’ bus drivers affected by an assault or threatening behaviour while on shift? Our is it a matter for the contractor?
4. Does AT have a policy of providing mental health assistance (or other support) to bus drivers affected by an assault or threatening behaviour?
5. When did AT most recently carry out a health and safety assessment related to assaults on bus drivers? We’re any additional measures required to ensure that AT meets its HSW Act obligations in relation to this threat?
6. Are bus drivers provided (or offered) training in self defence?
7. In relation to question 1 what routes/ companies has had the most reports of assaults/threatening nehaviours? And at what segment of the day? Early/mid/late morning? Afternoon? Evening? Night?
8.What is the official policy on standing passengers and/or waiting for passengers to sit?
9. Does AT get informed of contractors policies regarding safety and reporting requirements by the bus companies?
