P Shaw made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for P Shaw to read a recent response and update the status.
From: P Shaw
Dear New Zealand Police,
In accordance with the Official Information Act 1982, I would like to request all communications between the New Zealand Police and any company where the police sought to contract that company to remove the vehicles associated with the "Convoy 2022" protest either in the parliament grounds or within 1km of the parliamentary grounds over the period of 08/02/2022 - 12/02/22.
Also, the police stated they could not establish meaningful communication with the "Convoy 2022" protest organisers. I would like to request the documents or communications that were intended for communication with the "Convoy 2022" protest organisers over the period of 08/02/2022 - 12/02/2022.
I would like to request all documentation or notices of illegal activity issued to the "Convoy 2022" protest organisers or the "Convoy 2022" protestors during the period of the 08/02/2022 - 12/02/2022.
I would like to request any information held by the New Zealand Police that has been referred to by the New Zealand Police as 'misinformation' as it relates to the "Convoy 2022" protest during the period 08/02/2022 - 12/02/2022.
I would like to request any communications between the New Zealand Police and any and all representatives of the following companies; Stuff Limited, Media Works Holdings Limited, over the period of 08/02/2022 - 12/02/2022.
Finally, I would like to request any documentation or communication that contains reference to any or all interest groups associated with the "Convoy 2022" protest during the period 08/12/2022 - 12/02/2022.
Yours faithfully,
P Shaw

Kia ora P Shaw,
I refer to your request under the Official Information Act 1982(OIA) to
Police dated 12 February 2022 which included a request for:
o any documentation or communication that contains reference to any or
all interest groups associated with the "Convoy 2022" protest during
the period 08/12/2022 - 12/02/2022.
Section 12(2) of the OIA requires that the official information requested
must be specified with due particularity. It is not clear from your email
what you consider to be an “interest group.” Can you please list the
specific groups you are referring to?
In addition, you requested:
o any communications between the New Zealand Police and any and all
representatives of the following companies; Stuff Limited, Media Works
Holdings Limited, over the period of 08/02/2022 - 12/02/2022.
As you may know, Media Works Holdings Limited owns a number of radio
stations. Please list the specific stations you’re requesting
correspondence Police’s correspondence with. In addition, can you please
confirm whether you are requesting all such correspondence, or only
correspondence relating to the protest? Please note that if these points
are not clarified it may prove necessary to refuse this part of your
request under s 18(f) of the OIA.
If you could respond on the above points by Wednesday 9 March that would
be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,

From: P Shaw
Dear Ministerial Services,
Thank you for your reply. In order to not refine the request, and therefore trigger another 20 day waiting period, I am happy for you to ignore the elements of the two questions you are seeking clarification on. Therefore, I am happy for you not to answer the following:
You stated:
"As you may know, Media Works Holdings Limited owns a number of radio
stations. Please list the specific stations you’re requesting
correspondence Police’s correspondence with. In addition, can you please
confirm whether you are requesting all such correspondence, or only
correspondence relating to the protest? Please note that if these points
are not clarified it may prove necessary to refuse this part of your
request under s 18(f) of the OIA."
I am happy for this question, as it pertains to Media Works Holdings Limited, not to be answered at all to avoid having to clarify this point. I will not expect any communications between Media Works Holdings Limited and the New Zealand Police.
Secondly, as you stated:
"o any documentation or communication that contains reference to any or
all interest groups associated with the "Convoy 2022" protest during
the period 08/12/2022 - 12/02/2022."
and,
"Section 12(2) of the OIA requires that the official information requested
must be specified with due particularity. It is not clear from your email
what you consider to be an “interest group.” Can you please list the
specific groups you are referring to?"
Again, I am happy that you do not answer this question in order to avoid clarification of the request. I will not expect to receive an answer in reference to this question.
I hope this makes the collation of the remainder of the information far easier for you. If I find I would like this information at a later date, I will follow up with a request that clarifies these questions at that time.
Yours sincerely,
P Shaw
From: Ministerial Services
New Zealand Police
Kia ora P Shaw,
I refer to your request of 11 February 2022 for the following information:
1. all communications between the New Zealand Police and any company where
the police sought to contract that company to remove the vehicles
associated with the "Convoy 2022" protest either in the parliament grounds
or within 1km of the parliamentary grounds over the period of 08/02/2022 -
12/02/22.
2. Also, the police stated they could not establish meaningful
communication with the "Convoy 2022" protest organisers. I would like to
request the documents or communications that were intended for
communication with the "Convoy 2022" protest organisers over the period of
08/02/2022 - 12/02/2022.
3. I would like to request all documentation or notices of illegal
activity issued to the "Convoy 2022" protest organisers or the "Convoy
2022" protestors during the period of the 08/02/2022 - 12/02/2022.
4. I would like to request any information held by the New Zealand Police
that has been referred to by the New Zealand Police as 'misinformation' as
it relates to the "Convoy 2022" protest during the period 08/02/2022 -
12/02/2022.
5. I would like to request any communications between the New Zealand
Police and any and all representatives of the following companies; Stuff
Limited, over the period of 08/02/2022 - 12/02/2022.
Police has received a large number of Official Information Act 1982 (OIA)
requests relating to the protest activity at Parliament and we remain
committed to meeting our obligations under the OIA. However, as key
personnel remain committed to the operation it is necessary for Police to
extend the time limit under section 15A(1)(b) as the consultations
necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a proper
response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time
limit.
Police requires until 11 May 2022 to provide a substantive response to
your request. If it is possible to get information to you ahead of this
new deadline, every effort will be made to do so.
You have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to make a complaint to
an Ombudsman about this extension.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request with us, including this
decision, please feel free to contact
[1][email address].
