Consideration of the Wellington City Milk-supply Act 1919

James Sergeant made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs

The request was refused by Department of Internal Affairs.

From: James Sergeant

Dear Department of Internal Affairs,

Could you please provide me with any information relating to internal discussions within the DIA or correspondence with the New Zealand Treasury and/or the Parliamentary Counsel Office about the possible repeal of the Wellington City Milk-supply Act 1919 in the run-up to the release of the introduction of the Statutes Repeal Bill to Parliament by Minister Steven Joyce and Parliamentary Under Secretary David Seymour on 7 September 2016.

https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/stat...

I suggest that the period from 1 September 2014 to 6 September 2016 would be sufficient to cover any likely internal consideration or correspondence with the Treasury or the PCO, as it should cover the development of the exposure draft and the consequent consultation period.

The background to this request is the story in Stuff yesterday (27 March 2022) which quoted the DIA as saying that repealing the rule would be an “expensive and likely lengthy process.”

Also relevant is an article in Stuff (31 August 2021) which said:
"A move was made under the last National Government for the Act to be repealed as part of a bundle of obsolete laws, but it did not happen."

Yours faithfully,

James Sergeant
