In response to the question you have asked:  Which are the 100 most
dangerous intersections in Christchurch at present and how many are
upgraded annually?

 

Attached is a spreadsheet with a list of the 100 highest rated
intersections for crash risk with the Christchurch City Council area. 
These have been determined using the crash risk assessment methodology
outlined in [1]Waka Kotahi’s High Risk Intersections Guide.  The process
uses reported crash data from Waka Kotahi’s Crash Analysis System (CAS),
in this case covering the five year period 2016-2020.  It is worth noting
that some of the intersections in this list have had some improvements in
the recent past, which are yet to be reflected in the improved crash
record.

 

Safety is integrated in all transport projects that we deliver, which are
implemented through a number of capital programmes.  Therefore safety
improvements could be delivered as part of:

·       A specific project for major safety improvements at an
intersection

·       A wider project along a road corridor, e.g. Riccarton Road
Upgrade, Major Cycle Routes.

·       Work done under our Minor Safety Programme and School Safety
Programmes

·       Speed limit reviews, including Slow Speed Neighbourhoods programme

 

Improvements may also be implemented at the operational level without any
capital expenditure, such as applying fully controlled (non-filter) right
turn movements at a signalised intersection.

 

In terms of specific safety initiatives, CCC have developed a Metropolitan
Safety Programme which has been endorsed by Waka Kotahi as part of the
Road to Zero Infrastructure and Speed Management Programme.  This is a 10
year programme of around 300 projects, including; specific intersection
improvements, speed management and corridor safety improvements.
