NZ government support for terrorist attacks on the al-Aqsa Mosque and Gaza
Andrew Li made this Official Information request to Nanaia Mahuta
The request was partially successful.
From: Andrew Li
Dear Nanaia Mahuta,
On 0855 Friday, a disgusting message was publicly posted on Twitter by the official MFATNZ Twitter account, suggesting that Palestinian victims were to blame for the repeated terrorist attacks by the zionist entity on the al-Aqsa Mosque, and that Palestinians were somehow morally obliged to refrain from responding against terror attacks launched by zionist invaders on the third holiest site in Islam and the Gaza concentration camp.
https://twitter.com/MFATNZ/status/151724...
I am requesting:
1) All internal notes and communications made by Ms Mahuta and her office with MFAT and other individuals and organizations which related to the production of this message.
2) All internal notes and communications made by Ms Mahuta and her office with MFAT and other individuals and organizations which relate to the ongoing zionist terrorist attacks on the Al Aqsa mosque and Gaza, which have escalated with the particularly disgusting April 15 attack on the mosque.
Yours faithfully,
Andrew Li

Thanks Bindy,
I think these are pretty simple questions, and particularly urgent given the continuing attacks by zionist terrorists on the Al-Aqsa Mosque. When do you expect to have a response?
Kind regards,
Andrew
From: Andrew Li
Dear Bindy,
Given the continuing and escalating attacks on the Al Aqsa mosque and peaceful worshippers there, including not just drone strikes on worshippers but the disabling of mosque equipment by zionist terrorists to prevent the broadcast of the adhan or call to prayer, the support by Minister Mahuta's department for the zionist attacks on the mosque are of particular national and international media interest.
I assume that you will be releasing the requested documents very shortly, without engaging in further delaying tactics.
Yours sincerely,
Andrew Li
From: Andrew Li
Dear Bindy,
As zionist violence towards Palestinian civilians continues to escalate, with the murder of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh- shot in the head by a zionist terrorist for fun- as only the latest example, this question only becomes more relevant.
When do you intend to respond?
Kind regards,
Andrew
From: Andrew Li
Dear N Mahuta (MIN),
I am interested to learn when the response to my very simple question will be provided.
There seems to be plenty of time to criticize the decolonization of Hong Kong, but no time for the blood sacrifice of Palestinians and the desecration of Palestinian funerals and holy places.
Yours sincerely,
Andrew Li

Kia ora Andrew Li,
I am writing concerning your OIA request below. This email is to advise
that I will need to extend the time limit for responding to you by 24
working days, to 23 June 2022.
This is because:
consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a
proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time frame
(section 15A(1)(a) of the OIA refers).
However, if this process is completed before 23 June 2022, the response
will be sent to you as soon as possible.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this decision by contacting [1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone
0800 802 602.

Dear Foreign Affairs Portfolio,
You have not provided reasonable grounds for an extension. You claim that 'consultations' are required, but you fail to state why those consultations are required, or with whom, or why they have not already been conducted.
This is a flagrant attempt to violate OIA requirements over a very simple request. I can only assume that you will be providing the information as soon as possible but before 1730 on the 23rd of May, or that you will provide actually valid OIA extension grounds. If you do not intend to comply with the Official Information Act, make that clear as soon as possible.
Regards,
Andrew Li

Dear Foreign Affairs Portfolio,
This is a ridiculous attempt to extend the time at which a response will be sent, in violation of section 15A(3).
Section 15A does not provide for the extension of the time at which 'a decision will be made', effectively allowing extensions of the time to produce the documents requested ad infinitum- only during the original 20 working day limit.
Accepting, for the sake of argument, that your initial extension was reasonable and legal, the documents are due today.
Yours sincerely,
Andrew Li
From: Andrew Li
Dear ESD,
The 'seven working days' you illegally attempted to impose as an extension beyond the original request period expire today. So I had better be getting those documents, in electronic form.
I am well aware of the game you're playing. It's thoroughly dishonest, and typical of supporters of zionism against the rights of the legitimate population of Palestine.
Kind regards,
Andy

Your response is farcical and grossly in violation of the OIA and the Ombudsman's guidance regarding it.
On page 4 alone- in what world does the release of a purported 'summary' of events that can only be attributed to an public servant whose name you are already concealing impede "the free and frank expression of opinions by or between or to Ministers of the Crown or members of an organisation or officers and employees of any public service agency or organisation in the course of their duty..."?
Even worse... you falsely claim that not redacting PUBLICALLY PUBLISHED SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS copied and pasted into an email would "prejudice the security or defence of New Zealand or the international relations of the Government of New Zealand...". This is obviously false on the face of it.
After a farcical and dubiously justified delay, followed by a completely illegal delay, you are STILL not in compliance with the OIA. When will you be coming in compliance? I expect a response by 6:30pm today.
Yours sincerely,
Andrew Li
