I refer to your information request dated 2 May 2022 made under the
Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). You have requested the grade
breakdowns and number of enrolments for the following papers:
o ANAT332
o ANTH323
o EDUC307, EDUC311, EDUC321
o ENVI311
o SPEX201, SPEX202, SPEX203, SPEX204, SPEX205, SPEX207, SPEX208,
SPEX301, SPEX303, SPEX304, SPEX305, SPEX308, SPEX309, SPEX310
o ZOOL314, ZOOL315
Subject to the comments below, please find attached the information you
have requested. Please note that there are six sheets in the attached
document (one for each subject).
o It is the University’s standard practice to not report on marks which
relate to less than 5 students where we consider that such disclosure
could affect an individual’s privacy and wellbeing. Where the numbers
are very low, there is a risk that the identity of these students
could be determined/inferred, and that their personal information
(i.e. their grades) could be revealed. We therefore withhold this
information pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Act, and we do not
consider that the reasons for withholding this information are
outweighed by other considerations which would make it desirable in
the public interest to make the information available.
Therefore, we note that where the grade is Aegrotat, Fail D, Fail E, Fail,
Failed Terms or Absent, we have either grouped these students together or
indicated using <5. We have also disclosed the total number of enrolments
were applicable, however we have withheld (“W/H”) the total number of
enrolments where disclosing this would disclose information that we have
already withheld.
o Students who withdrew from the papers are excluded from the data.
I trust that this information will be helpful.
I note your right to seek a review of these decisions via a complaint to
an Ombudsman. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any
concerns with you first.
Ngā mihi
