Waitaki District Council
Dear Mr Russell,
Otago Rural Fire Authority (ORFA) is the gazetted rural fire authority for the Otago Region. See enclosed gazette notice. Since 1 July 2014, it has carried out this rural fire role, which was formerly held by the four Otago District Council, Dunedin City Council and the Department of Conservation.
Council funds its share of the work of ORFA in accordance with an agreement between the six "parent" authorities. So, the nature of Council's support is principally financial. Council has also transferred rural fire plant and equipment assets to ORFA. Waitaki District Council also has a vote to appoint two of the seven members to the Otago Rural Fire Committee, the ORFA Board.
