Health and Safety Designations at the Ministry of Justice
Erika Whittome made this Official Information request to Ministry of Justice
The request was successful.
From: Erika Whittome
Dear Ministry of Justice,
I refer to correspondence from you 11 Mar 2022 (COM 93618 ) regarding access to courthouses. In this correspondence, I was told the following by
Jan Morison, Acting Manager, Ministerial Relations and Services:
“As a result of COVID-19 restrictions, the Ministry has implemented check-in processes and conditions of entry in all of its courthouses. These are in line with Ministry of Health guidelines. They also consider our obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 to ensure the health and safety of people on our sites. By eliminating or minimising risks as much as is reasonably practicable, we can protect court participants and staff from harm to their health, safety and welfare.”
To me, if sounds as though your were or are acting as a health and safety regulator.
1. What budget was allocated for Covid 19 health and safety activities at Ministry of justice for the 2021/2022 financial years? For example Covid advisors, Covid risk specialist roles, website info pages etc
2. What designations did the Ministry of Justice receive under section 191 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 in order to act as a regulator for health and safety matters?
Yours faithfully,
Erika Whittome
