Dear Official Information,
Dear Sir/Madam,

I trust this message finds you well. I am writing to formally request information under the Official Information Act 1982 regarding the locations of tsunami sirens within the jurisdiction of the Christchurch City Council.

I have become aware, through public discussions and an article about the installation of additional tsunami siren units, that the current locations of existing sirens in coastal suburbs are not publicly available. My interest in obtaining this information stems from a genuine concern for community safety and preparedness.

Specifically, I am seeking:

A comprehensive list detailing the current locations of all existing tsunami sirens within the Timaru District Council's jurisdiction, particularly those in coastal suburbs.

Any plans or information related to the installation of additional tsunami siren units, as mentioned in recent articles.

Given the scattered nature of these installations and the lack of public documentation on their locations, I believe that having access to this information will significantly contribute to community awareness and preparedness.

I understand the sensitive nature of such details, and I assure you that my intention is solely to foster public safety and awareness. The acquired information will be utilized responsibly to benefit the community, especially in light of the proposed expansion of the tsunami siren network.

I kindly request that the provided information includes sufficient details such as addresses or geographic coordinates to enable effective dissemination of this critical information to the public.

Yours sincerely,

Charlie Hatchett

I can see council not wanting to release this as sirens are commonly stolen in some other areas of the country and release here is disclosure in a public forum.

In the meantime there is further information on our website - https://ccc.govt.nz/services/civil-defen...

Dear Charlie

Those repeaters are wireless data radio units and essential to the operation of the siren system - monitoring and activation.

They communicate with the base station at Pages Road and relay data from and to the sirens.

Sean
