What are the workplaces at which Covid-19 arises out of the nature of the work?
Erika Whittome made this Official Information request to WorkSafe New Zealand
The request was successful.
From: Erika Whittome
Dear WorkSafe New Zealand,
Employment New Zealand which is part of MBIE has the following advice on their website regarding the risks of Covid-19:
Employer vaccination requirements for work
-------------------------------------------------------------
A business or workplace may consider a vaccination requirement is appropriate based on a work health and safety risk assessment under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
(From https://www.employment.govt.nz/workplace... )
Section 199 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 has a requirement for work related notifiable diseases to be reported to the regulator which is Worksafe.
A few months ago, I requested the details of the reports of Covid-19 in the workplace under S199 of HSWA to Worksafe and received this response : :https://fyi.org.nz/request/23394/respons...
1. Would you please share how many workplaces you were informed of, OR were aware of that have/had Covid-19 as a disease which arose in the workplace as a result of the nature of work taking place?
2. Would you please share the type of workplaces these workplaces are/were and which industry they are in, eg health sector, bioengineering, education, construction etc.
Yours faithfully,
Erika Whittome

Thank you for your reply.
WorkSafe does not hold any information on workplaces reporting COVID-19 as a disease which arose as a result of the nature of the work taking place.
The information provided to you in our reply was the number of notifications of COVID-19 under section 199 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 since December 2019 up until the present day.
You can read more about section 199 notifications here: https://www.worksafe.govt.nz/notificatio....
