D Maclure made this Official Information request to Television New Zealand Limited
The request was partially successful.
From: D Maclure
Dear Television New Zealand Limited,
Whom may it concern,
I am requesting for information some TV programme has declined use of caption made available to deaf and hearing impaired viewers due an unknown reason after series drop rating or poor timeslot?
For years deaf and hearing impaired communities keep puzzling without given reason to date.
This used for deaf research purposes.
Yours faithfully,
D Maclure

Dear Brent McAnulty,
I meant any TV programmes that stopped caption due an unspecified reason within Deaf and Hearing impaired communities should have deserved to answer since was under TVNZ Access at that time prior to Able took-over responsibilities because we should not understand why some TV programmes stopped captioned beyond knowledge among them for example after first series went to air was captioned then after second series appeared stopped using caption. That the reason we have not been advised without gave specified reason led to withdrawing caption on some TV programmes.
I have acknowledged with concerned among the member of the Deaf community since 2000, also there was no advisory notices were posted on teletext which has now since discontinued.
There has been frustrated within the Deaf communities for years, as requested for OIA be part of historical research so this gave us a better understanding.
Yours sincerely,
D Maclure

Dear Mr Maclure
Thanks for your email.
I think you are saying that sometimes a new series is not captioned when
the previous series has been.
This doesn't happen often, but it can occur when a series is first played
in prime-time, but then the subsequent series are shifted to a late
timeslot, which we don't tend to caption. Our focus is usually on
prime-time content.
Kind regards
Brent
