Kia ora Joshua,

Thank you for your below request for official information, received on 27 April 2024. You requested all correspondence relating to four previous OIAs made by yourself through the FYI website.

Police are contacting you in accordance with section 18B of the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) as your request, as it is currently worded, is for a very large volume of information. Police has had a turn around in staff since your OIAs were responded to. In order to identify correspondence for each of your OIAs, Police have had to conduct an email search using the IR reference numbers. This search identified a significant volume of correspondence for each OIA. As such, your request may be refused under section 18(f) of the OIA as the information requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.

In order to provide you with information sooner and in order to work within a more manageable request, are you able to refine your request? Perhaps you could be more specific on what information you are particularly looking for relating to your four OIAs.
Please respond by 20 May 2024 so that we can consider your refinement in our response to your request.

We look forward to receiving your response.

Kia ora Joshua,

I refer to your request of 27 April 2024 and refined on 15 May 2024, as per the below email.

Police requires an extension of time in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section 15A(1) of the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). Specifically, section 15A(1)(b), consultations necessary to make a decision on the request are such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.

Police requires until 7 June 2024 to provide a substantive response to your request, however we are endeavouring to provide this to you as soon as possible.

You have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to make a complaint to an Ombudsman about this extension. If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request with us, including this decision, please feel free to contact [email address]

Kind regards, Courtenay
Senior Advisor - Ministerial Services Police National Headquarters
