Kia ora Steven,
We are just getting in touch to seek clarification on your request.
Regarding part (1) of your request, could you please clarify what you mean
by “any additional procurement information”? Are you just after a list of
appliances that have been purchased subsequently to the most updated
cascade plan? Or something different?
Regarding part (4) of your request, you ask for "an updated list for the
busiest stations both volunteer and career, for the last 12 months or 5
year average”. When you say “busiest” do you mean the number of callouts?
Further, by “busiest stations” are you requesting a list of some stations
that are a certain level of ‘busy’ (e.g., all stations over a certain
number of callouts), a certain number of the busiest stations (e.g., top
10 busiest), or all of the stations, ordered by how busy they are?
Finally, do you want us to provide the busiest stations in the last 12
months from your request, the last calendar year, or the 5-year average of
each station?
We look forward to hearing from you.
Ngâ mihi,
Information Requests Team

From: Official Information Requests
Fire and Emergency New Zealand
Kia ora Steven,
Thanks for your reply. In line with our obligations under section 18B of
the OIA, we are writing to you to seek refinement of your request in order
to remove any potential reason for refusal.
We can likely provide information about any purchased chassis or vehicles
that are currently in the process of being procured/built. If this is all
the procurement information you are after, please let us know.
Otherwise, it is unlikely that we can respond to your request for “any
additional vehicle procurement information” without being more specific
about the type of information and the timeframe for that information. As
it is currently framed, the request would capture a very large amount of
information, as it would include any information that has been produced at
any time in relation to any fleet procurement process, including all
emails and documents that may have been produced at any point during these
processes. Further, as Fire and Emergency engage with a number of external
entities during these processes, fulfilling your request would also
require a substantial amount of consultation to seek out and asses the
concerns of various parties who may have provided us with information.
If you do not refine this aspect of your request, it is therefore likely
that we would have to refuse it under section 18(f) of the OIA, as the
information requested cannot be made available without substantial
collation or research.
Further, could you please let us know what specific data you would like in
response to your request for a list of the busiest stations? Please see
our previous email for some suggestions.
Once you have considered the above, we would appreciate your reply as soon
as possible. If no reply is received, we will consider your request as it
was originally received.
Ngā mihi,
Information Requests Team

Dear Official Information Requests,
I apologise for overseeing your previous reply, and quote:
- Regarding part (4) of your request, you ask for "an updated list for the
busiest stations both volunteer and career, for the last 12 months or 5
year average”.
Please provide a list of top 10 busiest stations, nationwide, separated by volunteer and career.
In a separate document, please provide all stations nationwide with total number of callouts per station.
In reply to the cascade provided (Appendix 1), this is one that has been previously released and is outdated. Would you please seek further availability on an updated one, or when one could be expected to be released?
Yours sincerely,
Steven

Dear Official Information Requests,
Thank you for providing this.
Would you please be able to provide a breakdown, by year, of the last 5-7 years to show any increases or decreases of callout volume for each of the "Top 10"Volunteer stations" provided in this appendix?
It appears that there has been substantial growth of incidents and population across those areas.
Yours sincerely,
Steven
