The purpose of this email is to notify you that Police require an
extension of time in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section
15A(1)(b) of the Official Information Act 1982, because the request
necessitates a search through a large quantity of information and
consultations such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit. Police require until 19 June 2015
to provide a substantive response to your request.
You have the right to complain to the Office of the Ombudsmen about this
extension.

Dear MCMAHON, Teresa,
Thankyou for your response.
I accept and understand that partially or fully refused OIA's are difficult to compile retrospectively.
Would you kindly confirm that, in total, the OIAs
received/processed by NZPolice amount to :
8234 (completed within timeframe)
1942 (completed outside timeframe)
406 outstanding.
THis amounts to more than 10,500 OIA requests to NZP in one year,
or more than 200 per week.
It appears a staggering amount of work to process - without knowing
what proportion are refused- either completely or partially.
It may be worthwhile considering a more detailed record of whether
they are completed satisfactorily, or refused, and if so on what
grounds.
But I'm sure you have better things to be getting along with...Nevertheless, thanks again.
Yours sincerely,
Kilian O'Gorman

Good response- staggering number of OIAs processed by NZP- they should really publicise this more. Its almost worth having an 'office of OIA's' to manage them all.
But then again- I don't know that Police culture (not individuals) is quite up to full-on transparency- never mind any sort of real accountability just yet.
I hope they don't arrest me when I send an OIA about my OIA about OIAs.
