Dear University of Auckland,

1) Can you please provide the mean GPA of graduates of the LLB programme, broken down by year, from 2020-2023.

2) Can you please provide the upper quartile for GPAs of graduates of the LLB programme, broken down by year, from 2020-2023.

3) Can you please provide the LLB GPAs of the highest graduating student each year in the same period as (1) and (2). To protect the confidentiality of students, these GPAs do not need to be linked to a given year, or alternatively, can be given in a range.

Dear requester,

I refer to your request of 4 July 2024. As consultations necessary to make
a decision on your request are such that a response cannot reasonably be
given within the original time limit, the University has extended the time
limit for your request under section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA. The new maximum
time limit for the University’s response is 15 August 2024; we will
respond to your request as soon as reasonably practicable. You have the
right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are dissatisfied with
this extension.

Yours sincerely,

Dear requester,

I refer to your request of 4 July 2024. The University’s response follows.

“1) Can you please provide the mean GPA of graduates of the LLB programme,
broken down by year, from 2020-2023.”
See attached the requested information for the LLB (excluding the
LLB(Hons) and conjoint programmes). The figures provided are for the year
that degree requirements were met, not the year of graduation.

“2) Can you please provide the upper quartile for GPAs of graduates of the
LLB programme, broken down by year, from 2020-2023.”
The University does not hold this information. Your request is refused
under section 18(g) of the OIA.

“3) Can you please provide the LLB GPAs of the highest graduating student
each year in the same period as (1) and (2). To protect the
confidentiality of students, these GPAs do not need to be linked to a
given year, or alternatively, can be given in a range.”
The information requested about the LLB GPA of the highest graduating
student - who will have received the Auckland District Law Society Prize
or the Law Association Prize - for 2020-2023 is refused under section
9(2)(a) of the OIA, to protect the privacy of those persons.

You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this response.

Yours sincerely,
