Further to your information request relating to Skate Park Maintenance
Plan, dated 4 July 2024, and following a discussion with the requestor on
22 July, we advise:

We have met with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and note that, through a
conversation between yourself and Principal Design Open Space (one of our
SME’s) on 11 July, you have received information relating to the questions
proposed after the LGOIMA (No. 8140014076) was submitted. You have also
confirmed you do not require us to collate the information for Questions 2
and 3 due to the time that would be required. Due to this, we have
responded to the questions as per below and will treat this request as
closed.

Q1 - What is the process in regards to skate facilities being allocated
funds on the local board work programme for renewal/maintenance
The renewal of assets is based on the asset condition or components of the
assets condition. Assets in poor condition are prioritised for renewal.
Components of a skate park may be renewed or there are cases where the
whole skatepark area is renewed.

Q2 - How many skatepark renewals in Auckland in the last 5 years , where
the users of the skatepark /or community involved in the process of it
being renewed
Q3 - How many skateparks in Auckland over the last 5 years went out for
community consultation/ asking the users of the skatepark for input ?

We do not readily hold information regarding the extent of community
consultation and involvement for our skatepark renewals as many
community/interest group consultations aren’t recorded using our current
software but occur via letter drops, drop-in sessions, conversations,
etc.  We have also archived the platform we used pre-2020.   Gathering
this data for each Local Board area would require manual collation from
all of our Area Managers. However, we do recognise it is an area that
requires improvement and our  Community Engagement Advisors have mostly
been capacity building through the Auckland Council skate advocacy group
and conversations to better suit the engagement needs of skate groups.

Q4 – Please provide a list of destination skateparks in Auckland that have
lighting?
We have two skateparks in Auckland that have lighting these include
Western Park in Orewa and Clendon Community Centre.

Q5 - Are skateparks considered Playgrounds or Sports Fields?
Skateparks are not considered as playgrounds or sport fields. On our
Geographic Information System (GIS) database skateparks are identified as
skateparks.  At times, we do bundle assets so we can manage our vast array
of asset types. For example, our current maintenance contracts have a
section titled ‘Playground and Recreation equipment’ that includes
recreational, play, skate, courts, sports equipment and fitness equipment.

Q6 - How many sports fields in Auckland have lighting for night time use?

There are approximately 385 sports fields with lights.  The lights are
used mostly for training, rather than competition play, and includes both
artificial and natural turf field surfaces.  The figure provided does not
include tennis, netball courts or other hard surfaces or leases across our
portfolio
