I am writing to request, under the Official Information Act, the names of any group chats in which you or your staff are in. This includes, but is not limited to, group chats on platforms such as WhatsApp, Signal, and Telegram, as well as any Slack channels.

To be clear, this only applies to matters relevant to your ministerial responsibilities.

Most, if not all, staff in my office utilise group chats in the course of their work. The scope of your request would capture current, former and temporary staff who have briefly stepped into roles. Names of group chats my office are in are not catalogued and the information you have requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.

As such, your request may be refused under section 18(f) of the Act which applies where the information cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.

We kindly ask that you refine your request. We suggest that you may like to refine your request to provide a timeframe, particular topics and/or staff members. Please let us know before end of day on Wednesday 16 October whether you are prepared to amend or clarify your request and, if so, how.
