Tēnā koe,
Thank you for your email of 25 Whiringa-ā-rangi 2024 regarding the response provided to your request for official information.
Your request for information focused on a recent appointee announced on 24 Whiringa-ā-nuku 2024. The reply you received from the Minister for Māori Development explained the reasons for the decision to withhold some information. The Minister noted his decision to decline the request took into account section 9(2)(a) (Privacy) and section 9(2)(ba) (Obligation of Confidence) of the Official Information Act 1982.
The Ombudsman has issued information guides on these considerations that you may find helpful:
- Section 9(2)(a), and
- Section 9(2)(ba)
You might also find the current Cabinet Office circular [CO (23) 04] guiding the proactive release of Cabinet material useful. The circular specifically excludes the considerations of the Cabinet Appointment and Honours committee from proactive release, citing reasons of privacy and the publicly available nature of remuneration information.
Ngā mihi,
Teana Macdonald
