Further information to be requested from reply to OIA-CE-2024-02701
Hans made this Official Information request to Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Hans to read recent responses and update the status.
From: Hans
Dear Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children,
Thank you for your timely reply to my OIA request - OIA-CE-2024-02701
Further adding to that request, I would like to request additional information on some findings I found intriguing.
Please can you provide me any advice the acting CE Andrew Bridgman and other officials in National Office received on the following text:
"There must be no harm – it is never OK, it is never tolerable, it is never explainable.
I know that the vast majority of you come to work each day to do good.
But for those that cause harm there is no place for you in this organisation.
When harm occurs, we will find it and if our people have been found to have caused the harm or to let harm happen, then they will be removed from Oranga Tamariki.
The tolerance for harm is zero – that, for our tamariki, for the parents of the children in our
care, for the survivors who fought to remove this behaviour from the system, for the public of New Zealand - that is the promise"
Can you further provide me any information and/or on what constitutes 'harm' in this context, is this physical/emotional/mental harm, is this unintentional/intentional harm such as refusing to attend, providing incorrect information or delaying support to whanau and tamariki, or harm caused by delays or insufficient resources, such as frontline social workers, investigations, privacy (CIR) teams and complaint teams.
Would any dismissal of staff follow proper investigation and disciplinary actions or result in instant termination and if harm was inflicted by recent budget cuts to frontline and back office will the Minister consider increasing budget to reduce the effects of harm.
In addition, what are the current wait times/response times for OIA requests, Privacy requests and Complaints, how long on average does it take for each process to be deemed complete.
Nga mihi
