Kia Ora,
Official information request pursuant to the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA)
We refer to your official information request dated for information relating to staff on site at the Selwyn District Council headquarter (main building located at 2 Norman Kirk Drive, Rolleston 7643).
Response
Please see response relating to your request:
The total firecell occupancy of the Council headquarters building is 561 staff. We note that there are fewer desks in the building than the total firecell occupancy and we do not provide desks for that many staff.
The number of staff assigned to work in the building as of 9 April 2025 are 343.
Selwyn District Council has a Flexible Working policy which enables employees, in roles which are able to work up to 40% of their time remotely. This flexibility is a valued benefit by our employees, with employees actively choosing to work remotely. Staff members based at Rolleston HQ have an allocated desk space. However, on a given day, these desk spaces will not all be occupied for a variety of reasons e.g. due to staff working remotely, on leave, visiting other council locations, events, training etc.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at http://www.ombudsman.parliament.nz/ or freephone 0800 802 602.
