Prezzy Card Expiry Information

Dan Hawke made this Official Information request to New Zealand Post Limited

The request was refused by New Zealand Post Limited.

From: Dan Hawke

Dear New Zealand Post Limited,

I understand that Prezzy Cards lose their value if they expire, however the expiry dates on these seem to vary, and there is no specific information on your web site that details them.

Can you please confirm, for the 2015 calendar year:

- The number of Prezzy Cards issued
- The average length-to-expiry at the date of sale or activation of Prezzy Cards
- Any internal/PostShop regulations as to the minimum expiry duration when the Prezzy Cards are sold

- The number of Prezzy Cards that expired during this year, broken down by:
-- Those that had zero balance
-- Those that had a balance, and please provide the average balance
-- Those that were never activated, and please provide an average balance

Yours faithfully,

Dan Hawke

Dear Suzanne de Vere,

I'm sure you can see that based on your responses, I haven't quite received the information I was hoping for, so I'm going to try to rephrase some of it to possibly get information that is useful, but not commercially sensitive.

To clarify point 2/3, are you able to process the answer to point 2 anyway? I am aware of cases where Prezzy cards were sold with significantly less than 12 months expiry, so knowing the average would still be useful.

Regarding the Request 4, I may have used incorrect terminology resulting in the wrong information from you.

My understanding of the Prezzy card process, is the card is purchased and loaded with funds, then given to the recipient who 'activates' it. When I say those that were never activated, I intended to capture cards that were purchased and loaded with funds, but then the recipient failed to activate the card.

Regarding the commercial sensitivity of the figures in this, could you instead provide percentages, which would not directly relate or reveal the total number of Prezzy cards sold? And also a percentage of balance loaded which is eventually lost to expiry?

Yours sincerely,

Dan Hawke
