I refer to your Official Information Act requests of 14 March. You asked
for:

 

-       Information about New Zealand Police processes pertaining to
releasing ‘individual police officer conduct history and complaints
accrued over their working lifetimes’; and

 

-       ‘[…] information on the exact process that takes place after a
complaint is made against a police officer. Is there a protocol for how
the complaint is processed, and if relevant, any indication as to what
happens to said officer (retraining, work suspension, dismissal) depending
on the seriousness of the complaint against them?’

 

Pursuant to section 15A of the Official Information Act 1982, I have been
asked to advise you of the requirement to extend the time limit to respond
to your request. The period of the extension is until 21 April 2017.

 

The reason for the extension is that the time required for the
consultations necessary to make a decision on the request is such that a
proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.

 

You have the right, under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act
1982, to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision to extend
the time limit for deciding upon your request.
