The request was refused by Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs.
From: David Johnston
Dear Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs,
On the 19th November 1835 Maori from the Taranaki region sailed to the Chatham Islands where they kill and enslaved the Moriori population.
Does the New Zealand Government formally recognise this event as a genocide?
Yours faithfully,
David Johnston
