Question C) – “How are retirements of personal in the next few years going
to effect the number of steam and heritage diesel crews available both
nationally and regionally?”
Given the current employment law pertaining to retirement we are unable to
accurately predict the retirements of personnel in the next few years and
what effect that would have on steam heritage diesel crews.
Question D) – “Is KiwiRail providing any training or seeking to train
additonal personal specifically for steam operations?”
KiwiRail is in the early stages of developing a training plan for Steam
Operations personnel.
Question E) – “If no training is be completed, what actions is KiwiRail
taking to ensure the future of mainline heritage steam and diesel
operations?”
Refer to answers to questions D and F.
Question F) – “Is Kiwirail providing any training or seeking to train
additional personal for the operation of heritage diesel locomotives (such
as the Dj, Da, Dg, Di and De classes) and railcars?”
KiwiRail has existing training around the operation of heritage diesel
locomotives which is deployed when required.
Under s28(3) of the Act, you have the right to seek an investigation and
review of this response by way of complaint to the Ombudsman. Refer to
