Clarification regarding authority no. 2017/389: N26/308
Bryony Pearson made this Official Information request to Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga
The request was successful.
From: Bryony Pearson
Dear Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga,
With regard to authority no. 2017/389: N26/308, was this required because the grandstand was built in 1899 or was it because it was a site associated with human activity that occurred before 1900... or both?
The grandstand was built by two associations on land bought by the Takaka Athletic and Cycling Club in 1892 (and part of their asphalt track is still visible on the site) and by 1896 the Golden Bay A&P Association (A&P) had become co-owners and users of the land. The A&P still use the land for their annual show. Therefore the grandstand and the produce booth, built in 1911, are/were clearly both sites associated with human activity that occurred before 1900.
We would like confirmation that our interpretation of this is correct.
Yours faithfully,
Bryony Pearson

Dear Ms Pearson
I note a secondary information request relating to the issuing of an
archaeological authority for the Grandstand and advise this request will
be dealt with at the same time as thwe request for a copy of
archaeological authorities for the Takaka Rec reserve.
Regards
Geraldine Baumann
