The request was partially successful.
From: Steffan Cavill-Fowler
Dear New Zealand Police,
I am wanting to request copies of any reports, assessment or analysis on any noise omissions or exposures of police members when using issue firearms for police. I would want what testing on firearms or shooting ranges methodologies were conducted on noise exposure.
Yours faithfully,

Dear RIORDAN-EDMONDS, Daniel,
Thank you for your email.
I am a little confused with your response so I thought that I would clarify further my request. I am asking for any reports on the effects of noise on police staff on their firearms. That is from an occupational health and safety angle rather than prosecutions or charges. I am wanting to know what methods for testing firearms and how the weapons were assessed from a noise perspective. so using sound level meters and dosimeters and so forth.
Thank you
Steffan Cavill-Fowler
Yours sincerely,
Steffan Cavill-Fowler

Dear Mr Cavill-Fowler
I refer to your request of 20 October for the following information:
copies of any reports, assessment or analysis on any noise omissions or
exposures of police members when using issue firearms for police. I would
want what testing on firearms or shooting ranges methodologies were
conducted on noise exposure.
I have been asked to notify you that Police requires an extension of time
in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section 15A(1) of the
Official Information Act 1982, because the request necessitates a search
through a large quantity of information and consultations such that a
proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the
original time limit. Police require until 5 December 2017 to provide a
substantive response to your request.
You have the right to complain to the Office of the Ombudsmen about this
extension and about its being outside the legal timeframe for an extension
to be made. Police will try to get the reply to as soon as possible before
the revised deadline.
Yours sincerely
