Dear Mr O’Riley
I refer to your request of 21 October concerning Seven Sharp presenters’
salaries.
This request is refused.
We decline to provide detail of Mr Hosking and Ms Street’s salaries as
these are confidential between TVNZ and those individuals. Sections
9(2)(a) and 9(2)(b)(ii) of the Act apply in that regard.
To the third part of your request, we can advise that while TVNZ is owned
by the Crown it receives no government funding. It is expected to operate
out of its commercial revenues, and this includes the provision of all
staff salaries.
In our view the withholding of the information is not outweighed by other
considerations which render it desirable in the public interest to make it
available. In accordance with Section 19(b) of the Act we advise that you
have the right to seek an investigation and review of the above refusal by
making a complaint under Section 28(3) to an Ombudsman.
Yours sincerely
Brent McAnulty
