Section 61 visa requests by asylum seekers
Mr Dellow made this Official Information request to Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
The request was partially successful.
From: Mr Dellow
Dear Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment,
I am requesting statistics on section 61 visa requests by persons who listed a claim for refugee status to RSB or appealing a claim for refugee status to IPT as the reason for being in New Zealand without a visa (these people are known as asylum seekers or spontaneous refugees). I would like to receive statistics on how many applications were made, how many were successful, how many were denied after consideration, and how many were refused consideration. I would like these statistics broken down by country of origin of the applicant.
If this information is not available specifically for asylum seekers, I would request the information for ALL section 61 visa requests, with success rates, failure rates, and the number of requests that were refused consideration, broken down by country of origin of the applicant.
I would like these figures for the period 2013 - 2018 if possible.
Yours faithfully,
Mr Dellow
